Our energy transition strategy positions Irving Oil for long-term resiliency and growth through the energy transition process. Read more about our work to address climate change here.
Decarbonization investments include overhauling the flare gas compressor, installing heat exchanger bundles to improve thermal performance and improvements to the Energy Management System for a more efficient and responsible use of electricity, natural gas and refinery fuels at the Saint John refinery.
Irving Oil operates or hosts more than 140 EV fast chargers at 23 branded retail locations in Atlantic Canada and 13 sites in New England, as well as solar-powered retail sites in New Brunswick and Massachusetts.
We have identified Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) as a strategic part of our energy transition portfolio. In 2023, we announced new partnerships to bring RNG to our New Brunswick operations, diverting waste toward renewable energy sources and fostering a further reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

ContentProtecting our wetlands
Irving Oil has proudly partnered with Ducks Unlimited Canada for more than 60 years to help conserve Atlantic Canadian wetlands and the wildlife that call them home. We are also involved in a research project to measure the ability of wetlands to store carbon.
ContentSustainability and biodiversity
For more than 20 years, our partnership with the New England Aquarium and associated research teams has helped to better understand and protect ocean life, including work to identify and catalogue endangered North Atlantic right whales.
