Ian Whitcomb, President
Ian Whitcomb is the President of Irving Oil. In addition to day-to-day company management and the relationship with our Board of Directors, Mr. Whitcomb is responsible for guiding our strategy and keeping our company focused on its goals.
He brings a deep understanding of our company through more than 30 years of working with Irving Oil in his role with Deloitte. Mr. Whitcomb has held a variety of leadership roles, including sitting on the board of Deloitte Canada. Mr. Whitcomb is a graduate of Dalhousie University and became a Chartered Accountant in 1982. He is deeply committed to the success of our company.
Sarah Irving, Executive Vice President and Chief Brand Officer
Sarah Irving is the Executive Vice President and Chief Brand Officer with Irving Oil. Sarah grew up in Saint John, New Brunswick where she graduated from Rothesay Netherwood School and went on to complete her BA (cum laude) at Dartmouth College in 2010 and her MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College in 2014. After completing her undergraduate degree, Sarah worked for Deloitte in their New York strategic consulting practice.
Sarah grew up in the family business where she is mentored by her father, Arthur Irving. Together they share a strong appreciation for their employees and their customers and are committed to the growth and success of the company.
Kevin Scott, Chief Refining & Supply Officer
Kevin is responsible for all Refining Operations at Irving Oil’s Saint John and Whitegate facilities, as well as the Company’s Products & Terminals Operations. This team safely and reliably refines, stores and transports products to our customers in Canada, the US and Ireland.
Prior to this role, Kevin was Irving Oil’s Chief Human Resources Officer, leading teams across Irving Oil to attract, develop and retain great people. He has also led the Company’s Public Affairs and Supply & Trading teams, in addition to holding various positions in refining growth projects, trading, process operations and engineering.
Kevin joined Irving Oil in 1992 and holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of New Brunswick.
He and his wife have four children who keep them active with sports, theatre and music. In the community, Kevin volunteers with youth sports and economic development.
Darren Gillis, Chief Marketing Officer
Darren leads Irving Oil’s Sales & Marketing Operations including Retail Sales as well as Commercial and Home Heat businesses, Wholesale & Specialty Sales, Trucking and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). Darren also has responsibility for Property Management associated with our retail sites.
Prior to this role, Darren served as General Manager of Irving Energy, leading our residential and commercial business for heating oil, diesel, propane and natural gas marketing.
Darren’s career with Irving Oil spans more than 30 years and includes a number of leadership roles including Regional Manager of Western Newfoundland and Labrador, General Manager of our Heating Division, and Manager of the Customer Contact Center. He has also held various project and strategy development roles in cost leadership, customer service and business transformation.
Darren has a Bachelor of Business from the University of Prince Edward Island with a major in Marketing.
Darren and his wife, Leeanne, have three children.
Jennifer Beach, Chief Human Resources & Corporate Administration Officer
Jennifer is responsible for leading Human Resources across Irving Oil, in addition to overseeing the areas of Corporate Governance and Administration.
Prior to this role, Jennifer was a Partner at Deloitte where she provided her clients including Irving Oil a wide-range of Advisory services drawing on her diverse experience in the areas of Enterprise Risk and Consulting. Jennifer obtained her Certified Management Accountant designation in 2000 and has served on CMA New Brunswick’s Practical Experience Evaluation and Review Committee and the Public Accounting Committee.
Jennifer currently serves as a Board Member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of New Brunswick.
Jeff Matthews, Chief Financial Officer
Jeff Matthews is responsible for all financial services at Irving Oil, along with the execution of all new business development opportunities for the company.
In his role as Chief Financial Officer, Jeff deals with financial planning and strategy, financial performance and stewardship, treasury, taxation, supply management and investments in joint ventures. As well, Jeff is responsible for new business development and government relations/environmental affairs.
Jeff joined Irving Oil 24 years ago and holds a degree in Business Administration from the University of New Brunswick. He earned his Chartered Professional Accountant designation in 1994 while working with Deloitte & Touche, and has held a variety of senior roles with the company during his career.
Jeff and his wife Cindy are proud parents of their two children, Taylor and Jon.
John Laidlaw, Chief Legal Officer
John is the Chief Legal Officer of Irving Oil. In addition to overseeing Irving Oil’s Legal team, John manages the company’s Corporate Security and Corporate Real Estate teams.
Prior to joining Irving Oil, he practiced law with the law firm of Cox & Palmer where he held a variety of leadership positions.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mount Allison University and a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of New Brunswick.
John and his wife, Sharon, have four children.
Kelley Greer White, Chief Information Officer
Kelley Greer White is Irving’s Chief Information Officer, responsible for Information Technology strategy, cybersecurity, architecture, and operations for systems across the Irving Oil enterprise.
Prior to joining the company in 2016, Kelley has worked extensively in IT for Oil and Gas and other industries, in Atlantic Canada, Ontario, and Alberta. She has led multinational teams with responsibilities for supporting infrastructure and applications for all aspects of the business, including IT for megaprojects, offshore production, multiple refineries and midstream assets, and retail sites. Kelley is originally from Newfoundland and attended Memorial University for both her undergraduate degree and MBA. She also holds a post-graduate diploma in Applied Information Technology.
Steven McLaughlin, General Manager, Products and Terminals
Steven is responsible for leading the Products and Terminals teams for Irving Oil. In his current role, he leads Product Supply and Trading, European Gasoline Blending, Marine Terminals & Shipping and Rail Operations.
In his 34 years with Irving Oil, Steven has held a variety of roles in Credit, Insurance, Shipping, Business Development, and Supply & Trading.
He has a Bachelor of Administration degree from University of New Brunswick and received his Certified General Accountants designation in 1985.
Steven and his wife, Cathy, have 3 children.
