Irving Oil-Canaport LNG Charity Volleyball Tournament Attracts 24 Teams
SAINT JOHN, NB — On Sunday April 29th, volleyball players from across Saint John will be taking to the court at the UNBSJ Gymnasium for a great cause. This year’s Charity Co-ed Volleyball Tournament, co-sponsored by Irving Oil and Canaport LNG, will be in support of the Carleton Community Centre on the West Side. Twenty-four teams have registered and expect to raise over $10,000 for the Centre.
“It warms my heart to see Irving Oil and Canaport LNG come together in support of the Carleton Community Centre,” said Chuck Edison, Director of the Carleton Community Centre. “This fundraising initiative will make a tremendous difference for us in the quality of programs we deliver to our kids. We thank them for helping us help our kids.”
“For over 50 years, the Carleton Community Centre has been the recreational centerpiece of the West Side,” said Carolyn Van der Veen, Irving Oil. “At Irving Oil, we recognize how much the Centre has contributed to local wellness and recreation, and we hope the Centre will continue for 50 more years and beyond.”
“Supporting the Carleton Community Centre was a perfect fit for the Charity Tournament,” said Kate Shannon, Canaport LNG. “Not only does the Centre have a long history of supporting local sports, but it does a lot of work to promote physically active lifestyles in our community.”
The public is invited to watch the teams in action between 9am-5pm on Sunday, including a 12:30pm lunch break which will feature a special performance by the Carleton Cheerleaders.
Great prizes will be up for grabs by the tournament’s first and second place teams. Raffle tickets for a $1000 SportChek gift certificate will be available for $2 each, or 3 for $5. All event proceeds, including the teams’ registration fees, will go to the Carleton Community Centre.
