Our co-generation power plant generates much of the refinery’s power supply.
A decade ago, Irving Oil had the opportunity to include natural gas power generation in our refinery upgrade project, with natural gas supplies coming online from Sable Island, off the coast of Nova Scotia.
Partnering with TransCanada, we commissioned a $90 million cogeneration power plant. This power plant uses one form of fuel, natural gas, to produce two forms of energy - power and steam. Over 90 percent of our refinery's energy is generated within the facility.
