Irving Oil announces 7th Annual Operation Clean-Up:
Clean-up will focus on local neighbourhoods and the Little River Reservoir
SAINT JOHN, NB – Approximately 500 employees from the Irving Oil refinery will be donning their gloves and work boots and reporting for duty as part of this year’s Operation Clean-Up event, taking place on Thursday, June 7th between 9:00am and 1:00pm.

Workers will be volunteering their time to pick up litter around the refinery property and in the Champlain Heights, Loch Lomond Road, MacDonald Street, Grandview Avenue, Commerce/Consumers Drive, Mark Drive, and McAllister Drive areas. Irving volunteers will also be cleaning-up around the Little River Reservoir, where a local association plans to build a four-kilometre hiking trail.

“This is an opportunity to enhance the local environment where we all work and live” says Gary Bischof, General Manager at the Saint John refinery. “We look forward to Operation Clean-Up every spring. It’s a time for us to take pride in our workplace, and a chance to meet our neighbours and thank them for their support.”

The 7th-annual event coincides with Canadian Environment Week. Operation Clean-Up began in 2001 following the completion of Irving Oil’s refinery upgrade project. Since that time, the event has grown to include neighbouring areas of Saint John and includes hundreds of company volunteers each year.
